BRANFORD >> An incident involving a 41-year-old local man who died after being stunned with a Taser  by a town police officer has at least one state lawmaker seeking a more unified standard for use of the devices.
State Sen. Ted Kennedy Jr., D-Branford, said in a statement that he would like to explore Taser policies in the state’s law enforcement agencies. David Werblow, 41, died Sunday after an officer deployed his Taser after police responded to a reported disturbance. His death is being investigated by Connecticut State Police, per standard procedure after a use of force death.

BRANFORD >> Weeks after Crouch Road resident John Deveau, 61, was declared missing, court records show police arrested a man who lives next door after he allegedly broke into Deveau’s house and stole his prescription painkillers.
But police say the man they arrested in the theft of the painkillers, Thomas Chester Malinka, 43, who resides in a small house at 33 Crouch Road, Unit D, is not considered a suspect in Deveau’s disappearance.
Malinka was arrested June 10 and charged with burglary, larceny, possession of narcotics and use and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $500,000.
Adding to the mystery, Deveau went missing in the spring after he reported being the victim of an ATM larceny.

BRANFORD — Three men allegedly plotted the 2006 arson murder of Kathy Hardy in a meeting days before the fire that killed the 39-year-old mother of three, someone who allegedly was there has told police, according to Hardy’s family.

Two of the men at the alleged meeting, which family members say took place at DePalma’s Apizza in East Haven, also allegedly showed up at the home of an East Haven woman the day of the fire, March 7, 2006, said Hardy’s mother.
